Senate Greenlights Legislation to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of official records related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by the president and his GOP allies. The administration changed course after an extended period of trying to delay the cross-party initiative involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Unanimous Approval in Congress

Senators proceeded by unanimous consent, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, expediting the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

Citizens have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have waited patiently,” Chuck Schumer declared in a floor speech on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next heads to Trump for his approval. He stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Even though Trump has for months rejected the outcry over the official management of the Epstein case as a “false narrative”, he signalled his support for the House bill over the past few days, and stated he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were present in a viewing area, applauded after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who expressed concern he feared the measure would disclose personal information of witnesses, potential suspects and others involved in the investigation.
