A person who contaminated treats with sedative and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "Recently" his family member had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She said the defendant continued to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five children.
